Amazon seems to have tried its hand at everything. It went from an online retailer selling only books, to selling everything, to a digital book distributor, to a digital movie distributor, to a digital game distributor, and now it has a game development studio. As to why they decided to create a gaming studio, according them them,

There you have it. Many of their customers like to play games. Many of their customers who buy items using an online distributor. Go figure, huh?

Earlier today they announced and launched their first game. The game is titled “Living Classics” and is available on Facebook. It’s a pretty adorable game, involving a family of foxes who have wandered into some of their favorite books. It all comes back to books doesn’t it, Amazon?

Living Classics is available to play free on Facebook right this moment. In the game it’s up to you to reunite the family of foxes by, basically, clicking objects.

While it doesn’t sound very dynamic, neither did Angry Birds. It all comes back to what exactly is pushing people to play, and how their friends can interact with them. The game comes at a particularly good time for Amazon, what with Zynga reeling from its recent lawsuit. According to their announcement, they’re also in the process of hiring game developers. This is a great opportunity for any aspiring game makers- Amazon has a great track record. Developing for their company could possibly one of the safest bets out there.
