EA Did A BooBoo!

origin

To say EA screwed up this weekend is a bit of an understatement..

Players who recently filled out a survey for EA were happy to receive a $20 voucher code for their US and Canada Origin stores online, this entitled players to either $20 towards a game, or if the game was under the voucher amount, they received the game for free. Well, that’s how EA wanted it to go.

Soon enough people realised that the code could be re-used, if you’d previously bought a game via the client, you could just go onto their web version and re-use the code there. That’s not all though, the code could be used several times on new accounts resulting in gamers getting their hands on titles such as;

  • Battlefield 2™: Complete Collection
  • Battlefield 3: Back to Karkland
  • Battlefield 2142
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2
  • Bulletstorm
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Command and Conquer 4
  • Crysis
  • Crysis Warhead
  • Dark Spore
  • Dead Space 1
  • Dead Space 2
  • Dragon Age 2
  • Dragon Age: Origins
  • FIFA 12
  • Littlest Petshop
  • Mass Effect
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Medal of Honor (2010)
  • Mirror’s Edge
  • MySims
  • Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit
  • Red Alert 3
  • Shank 2
  • Shift 2: Unleashed
  • Sims 2
  • SimCity 4
  • Simcity: Societies
  • Spore
  • The Saboteur
  • Warp

It didn’t take long for the code to appear on Reddit subreddits such as /r/freebies and /r/GameDeals and that’s where it really blew up!

It took EA around 18 hours to notice what was happening and now the code no longer works. Origin community manager Sam Houston took to the EA forum and has confirmed that the voucher no longer works but “We’ll honor all sales made with the coupon code over the weekend and hope fans enjoy their games.”
