Carmageddon Funsize! A Nostalgia Trip Right in the Palms of Our Hands!

We posted a video quite a while back about showing a quick teaser of Carmageddon Funsize for the iPad but at the time there wasn’t much information about this release, until now!

I managed to chat with Simone McDermott and play the game at the Eurogamer Expo and I must say, It reminded me waaay back when I was about 12/13 playing this game on my friends PlayStation and one thing that stands out to me the most is that even though the game is somewhat dated (the original PlayStation version was released in 1999) it’s still got it! Oh and did I mention, this game was previously banned around the world due to the gory content! In some countries they even had the pedestrians replaced with zombies and robots because they considered it to be that bad!

For those of you familiar with Carmageddon will instantly recognise the game play and most of it’s features such as the Prat Cam featuring Die Anna and Max Damage as well as the famous (and controversial) kill pedestrians for points and bonuses feature!

The initial aim of Carmageddon is to complete the race but has been known for it’s fantastic “play it your way” game play. Players can choose to wreck their opponents, kill all of the pedestrians, or if you really have to.. complete the laps!? And if trying to avoid the other 28 mental opponents wasn’t enough, players must also try to avoid the fuzz in their rediculously armoured cars, that if I remember rightly, they’re impossible to shake off.

I was told that the game was also very well received at the Expo from old and even new players of the game which in my opinion is fantastic!

Carmageddon Funsize! A Nostalgia Trip Right in the Palms of Our Hands! - n3rdabl3While chatting with Simone (one of the games designers for Stainless Games) at the Expo I also broached the subject of Carmageddon: Reincarnation, an entirely new Carmageddon game with exactly the same principles as the original game but a completely re-vamped and re-booted version with fancy graphics and everything!

Carmageddon: Reincarnation first made it’s appearance as a Kickstarter Campaign initially aiming to raise $400,000 to bring the points-for-pedestrians game into the 21st century, and you’ll be happy to know that they actually managed to raise almost double with the final total reaching just over $600,000!

“The Kickstarter campaign was a lot of hard work” Simone told me, “We underestimated the amount of work that went into it, but it was a lot of fun!” I asked her whether Reincarnation had been in the works for a while before the launch, “It was planned, but not much!” replied Simone. If you managed to check out the Kickstarter page you’ll also notice the fantastic amount of goodies they were offering to any of the pledges such as a complete render of yourself as a pedestrian in the game, or a neat collectables such as a splatted granny figure, or a miniature Red Eagle car!

Initially, Carmageddon: Reincarnation will be coming to Steam, but I asked if there would be any plans for an Xbox Live or PSN release of the game and there is a definite possibility so watch this space!
