With hurricane Sandy putting a stop to Google’s big event we were all unsure when the big announcement of the next Nexus phone was going to happen. There may have been a hurricane but that didn’t stop Google releasing the details of all three Nexus devices on the Official Google Blog on Monday (29th).
The blog post titled “Nexus: The best of Google, now in three sizes” had details on all three new Nexus devices; The Nexus 4, The Nexus 7 (not new, but with added features), and The Nexus 10. Read on for more information on each one!
The Nexus 4– We’ve probably all had enough hearing about the Nexus 4 by now, but I’ll continue. The new Nexus 4 – made by LG, is a 4.7″ smartphone with a 1.5GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of on board RAM, an 8MP main camera and a 1.3MP front facing camera, NFC (Android Beam), Wireless charging (out of the box), and Android 4.2.
The best possible thing about this phone has to be the price. In the UK Google are selling the Nexus 4 for only £239.00 for the 8GB version, and £279.00 for the 16GB version. For a smartphone of this standard, that’s pretty phenomenal. The Nexus 4 will be available for purchase on Tuesday, Nov. 13th.
The Nexus 7 – What’s new with the Nexus 7? Well, Google announced in the blog post that the Nexus 7 will now come in a new size: 32GB to be precise not only that, You’ll soon have the option between the new 32GB version with WiFi only or WiFI and HSPA+ mobile data connectivity making the already portable tablet even more portable!
Google said this on their blog:
“To give you more room for all that great content you can now get Nexus 7 with 16GB ($199) or 32GB ($249) of storage. But we also wanted to make this highly portable tablet even more mobile. So we added HSPA+ mobile data.”
The new Nexus 7 will be £199.00 for the 32GB WiFi only model, and £239.00 for the WiFi and HSPA+ you can buy the 32GB WiFi only version now but there are no details yet on when the WiFi and HSPA+ model will become available.
The Nexus 10 – This is the big guy, the one most people have been looking forward to the most. The Nexus 10 made by Samsung is a brand new 10-inch tablet (10.055″ to be pedantic) at 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution for 300 ppi, under the bonnet the Nexus 10 packs: A 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, a Mali T604 GPU, and a 5MP rear camera and a 1.9MP front facing camera. The Nexus 10 also comes in either 16GB or 32GB memory options.
You can get the Nexus 10 on Tuesday, Nov. 13th for either £319.00 for the 16GB version or £389.00 for the 32GB version.
Finally we’ve got Android 4.2 (still named Jelly Bean) it’s “the simplest and smartest version of Android yet” starting with the camera, Google have reinvented the way you take photo’s with the new Photo Sphere experience. The Photo Sphere lets users capture full 360-degree panoramic images.
Android 4.2 also brings Gesture Typing, something which Samsung have had available for a while with their TouchWiz launcher. Gesture Typing is similar to the Swype keyboard which lets users glide their finger over the letters they want to type on the keyboard. Android 4.2 also adds support for wireless display so you can wirelessly watch movies, YouTube videos and play games right on your Miracast-compatible HDTV-Fancy!
