Wreck-It Ralph is the 52nd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series and features Ralph, or “the wrecking guy” as he’s known as by players of the video game Fix-It Felix Jr. Ralph has been doing the same job for 30 years, he’s tired of smashing windows and floors and generally being unappreciated and disliked, he’s tired of being the bad guy so he abandons his game by escaping down the power chord and begins his quest to be the good guy for once.
Ralph begins to game jump to different games in the arcade and ends up in Hero’s Duty where he helps the game’s hero, Sergeant Calhoun, battle against “Cy-Bugs” but also realises how violent video games have become!
Throughout the movie you’ll be able to spot some of your favourite video game characters like Bowser, Q*bert, Sonic, and Paddle 1 and 2 from Pong which is a fantastic touch!
They’ve also picked some great stars to do the voices for this animation such as, John C. Reilly as Wreck-it Ralph, Jack McBrayer as Fix-It Felix, Jr. and Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz, a 9-year-old racer and glitch in Sugar Rush.
And you can’t have a video game movie without subsequently releasing the video game that features within the film. You can play Flash based versions of the games featured in the movie such as Fix-It Felix, Jr., Hero’s Duty, and Sugar Rush (both of which require you to download the Unity Plugin if you haven’t already), you can also get Fix-it Felix Jr. on iOS devices!
Along with those, Disney have also announced a tie-in game based on the film for the Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and the DS and will feature a follow on story where players can take the role of either Ralph or Fix-It Felix, Jr. June of this year also saw the announcement of Ralph will be a playable character in Sega’s Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed as a guest character.
Wreck-It Ralph will be released in the US on November 2nd, but those of us across the pond in the UK can expect to find Wreck-It Ralph in our cinemas on February 15th.
