MSN Messenger

Windows Live Messenger

Microsoft announced recently and has been sending emails out to all of it’s users that they’re putting an end to MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger as it’s now known. Why? Because Skype is the go-to instant messenger/voice chat/video call app now. But don’t fret, you can merge all of your Messenger contact over to Skype pretty easily!

The news comes soon after Microsoft paid around $8.5 billion for the Skype software developers and reflects Microsoft’s focus on developing the Skype platform rather than trying to keep Windows Live Messenger alive.

I remember using MSN messenger way back in the early 2000’s to contact all of my pals from school and it’s even what I used to begin speaking to a girl who ended up being my Wife a few years later! It’s sad to see that it’s calling it a day, but the past few years I’ve occasionally / accidentally signed into WLM, no one has been online for years and with the introduction of Facebook Messenger, as well as smartphone apps such as Kik and Whatsapp it’s clear to see that WLM was just the old dude left at the back waiting for someone to interact with him.

Farewell MSN Messenger from us at n3rdabl3!
