PS3 lifetime shipments ahead of Xbox 360

PS3 lifetime shipments ahead of Xbox 360 - n3rdabl3Global shipments of Sony’s PlayStation 3 have reportedly surpassed that of Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Despite the PS3 launching a year later.

This information is according to a hefty research report from the International Data Corporation, which is being sold for $4,500.

In December 2012 the PS3’s lifetime shipments reached 77 million units compared to the Xbox 360’s 76 million. But it is also worth noting that this data is not based on consumer sales, but retail shipments.

Shipments of both consoles are neck and neck with the expected release of their successors in the next year. This also indicates a triumph for Sony given the PS3’s reputation for a shorter life cycle.

The latest price cuts surely had influence. The Wii remains top in this metric nevertheless, and as I believe with some margin to spare also!
