Sony has announced it will cease shipping of its PlayStation 2 console in Japan. The console sold over 150 million units worldwide, becoming the most popular home console of all time, boasting impressive longevity.
The PlayStation 2 still receives occasional software releases despite its successor, the PlayStation 3 launching back in 2006 and a fourth home console set to appear this year.
There has been no information regarding whether Sony will stop sales in other regions. But what it does mark is the beginning of the end for one of the worlds most resilient consoles.
