We covered Sony’s latest handsets the Xperia Z and the ZL a few days ago, but the specifications were all rumours, until now! Sony officially revealed their latest flagship handsets, and the Xperia Z is pretty impressive! Complete with military grade IP55 and IP57 Igress Protection ratings the Xperia Z can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes without damage! The new Android handset is both dust and water resistant, much like the Motorola Defy, but this time it comes with guarantees. The phone has tempered glass on the front and back as well as an anti-shatter film coating.
Gimmicks like this are all well and good, but how does the phone perform? Earlier we told you the rumours of the handset coming with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon quad-core CPU and Adreno 320 graphics. A minimum of 2GB of RAM is hopefully expected, as well as a 13-megapixel camera. The real specs are pretty much that, we’ve got the 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch HD 1080x1920p display, as well as a 13-megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p HD video, we’ve also got a front facing camera at 2.2-megapixels, and comes with 16GB of internal memory, microSD cards are also supported.
The previously mentioned ZL was there too, full of pretty much the same specs as the Z, but this time without the water resistance, so if you’re going to purchase the ZL and someone think’s it’s a Z, make sure they’re nowhere near water..
Both phones are set to be released in Q1 (we’re thinking February), but no pricing has been confirmed as yet.
