Exciting news for those of us who are looking forward to the range of Ubuntu smartphones that were announced earlier this year. According to CNET, The Ubuntu OS Smartphone should be “ready for retail” in the fourth quarter of 2013.
During the wait, Canonical will be opening up the platform for developers to get their apps ready for the launch of the mobile OS.
Developers will be pleased to know that the OS avoids using Java in favour of its own native code, along with the heavy use of HTML5 within their apps it’ll make it a hell of a lot easier to develop apps for both the desktop and mobile OS.
As mentioned in my previous post, I’m pretty excited to see what the Ubuntu mobile OS has to offer to the already rich smartphone market. Hopefully they become a strong contender!
