Could Another Destruction Derby Be On Its Way?

Those of you who played on the PlayStation in the 90’s probably played Destruction Derby at some point? I know I did, it was one of my favourite games, I wasn’t a fan of the races much because back then I found racing games a little tedious and boring, my favourite part was the Bowl. 10+ cars in a huge bowl arena crashing, smashing and slamming each other to the death until the last man standing is crowned the winner..

When Destruction Derby 2 game out the graphics had improve considerably, but the game didn’t receive quite the same reception, from here Destruction Derby Raw and Destruction Derby Arenas were released, but until now I hadn’t even heard of those two titles..

From here Bugbear Entertainment created the kind of “unofficial” follow on of the Destruction Derby series called FlatOut. Bugbear released three other FlatOut games until 2011 when Team6 Game Studios released FlatOut 3 for PC only. FlatOut followed the same game play concepts as Destruction Derby, you had track races, open track races, and demolition derby competitions.

Could Another Destruction Derby Be On Its Way?Recently Bugbear launched http://www.nextcargame.com with the above video, and the quote:

We’re making a new car game. This time we’re going back to our roots – just like all of our
fans have been asking us to do! If you like what you see above, you’re going to love it.
It’s all in-game footage!

On their website they also wrote a short post accompanying the above video which says:

Best known for our critically acclaimed, multi-million selling “FlatOut” series (FlatOut, FlatOut 2, FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage), team Bugbear is going to deliver the definitive demolition derby racing game.

We’re doing it because nobody else seems capable of delivering the kind of game our fans have been asking from us every week. We feel that there hasn’t been a proper demolition derby game in years. It’s about time they got an answer.

We’re calling it just our next car game for now. It’s coming for the PC and yet to be announced platforms. More news soon.

Could Another Destruction Derby Be On Its Way?The use of “yet to be announced platforms” is an interesting thing to put in there considering the PlayStation 4 has been announced, and just like with the PlayStation event, we’re not actually 100% sure there’s going to be a new Xbox.. Interesting.

While I was watching the video I was grinning from ear to ear, the video is amazing and it’s all game-play footage! I’m pretty excited for this game, what about you? Leave a comment below!
