Well over a year ago now I briefly mentioned Sainless Games Kickstarter campaign for Carmageddon: Reincarnation a reboot of their classic mental car racing game from the mid 90’s Carmageddon. It’s been quite under wraps at the moment with the original game only seeing a PC release, but news recently has shed a little more light on the game and there’s also a possibility for a next-generation console release.
Stainless Games announced a short while ago that they had received a $3.5 million investment from BullFrog Productions founder Les Edgar which adds to their existing $625,000 which they achieved with the Kickstarter for the game’s reboot.
“We are delighted to have fully funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation without having to go outside of the collective of our own company, shareholders and fans,” said Patrick Buckland, CEO of Stainless Games. “It allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints. For an independent, privately owned company to achieve this, is a testament to our strength and to the loyalty of our fans.”
With a release date of December on the cards we’re not sure if this will be pushed back due to the inclusion of next-gen consoles. It’ll be interesting to see how the classic game translates on the newer consoles considering the power they should have within them this game could become a million times better than the already awesome classic version!
Stainless Games released the classic Carmageddon on iOS a few months back with an Android version still in the works.
