GRiD 2

GRiD 2GRiD 2 is one of many games I’m looking forward to this year, I recently reviewed the last GRiD game and let me tell you, it’s a fantastic AAA game even today almost 6 years after it’s release. Whereas GRiD was a game under the Race Driver series of games, GRiD 2 takes the name and creates an entirely new franchise away from the original Race Driver series. The game also features a brand new concept that involves Patrick Callahan the entrepreneur and founder of World Series Racing, the fictional cross-discipline motor racing championship that runs throughout GRiD 2.

GRiD 2

So who is Patrick Callahan? Well his back story is a little vague so far, but what we have learned from the current two-part series of trailers (the first one above) is that he’s trying to create a new racing series called World Series Racing. He hopes to bring talent from all over the world from all different disciplines and styles together to compete in one unified league and find the ultimate driving superstar. In order to set up a new motorsports series, and get the rewards that Callahan craves, he needs a star. This is where the player comes in and gets involved in the WSR.

In GRID 2 players will  get the chance to travel the world visiting various licensed tracks in order to recruite race clubs and their drivers to compete in new and traditional racing events, crossing in and out of their established disciplines and racing styles. This is something Callaghan figures, that if he can get the best, the crowds will come. Thus building up a fan base of the new motorsports series he hopes to create.

GRiD 2So far two video’s have been released, Part 1 (above) highlights the USA-based racing in GRID 2, which inclides more scenes from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the California coast and on the streets of Chicago previously highlighted in past trailers. Part two takes us to Europe and showcases the twists and turned of the Côte d’Azur to the magnificent boulevards and streets of Paris and the undulating tarmac at the state-of-the-art Algarve International Circuit.

The more I see of this fantastic game the more I’m itching to play it but alas, I have to wait! GRiD 2 is coming to Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 on May 31st.

I still play GRID regular on both pc and 360. I’ve been looking forward to this sequel since it was confirmed. The near misses are totally heart pounding, even more so when a competing driver crashes, for his car to roll in the air as you pass underneath. Easily the best race game I’ve ever played.
A definate buy for me. If only other developers released top game sequels at a reasonable period apart, instead of yearly.
