The news is a bit of a shock and somewhat confusing as the digital download of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has already passed a successful sale number of around five million. Numbers which make the download in a league of it’s own on the XBLA. The physical retail version will be releasing in April for the US, Australia, Hong Kong and a few others for the moment. No Europe release is talked about yet but it’s sure to happen in the coming months.
The odd thing here is that the retail version of the game will be in fact exactly the same as the digital version in every way. From multiplayer support between both digital and retail, same content and features and even the same updates in roughly the same time period. So in short it’s the same game most of the Xbox 360 user base already have just on a disc.
The next update for Minecraft: Xbox 360 edition is currently in testing and should be released soon. It’s odd to think that might be more interesting then the retail release. None the less, the retail version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 edition will release in the US on April 30th for $19.99 with other territories to see a release in early June.
We will keep you posted on any news as to if there will be a European release any time soon.
