Good news to those of you who backed the OUYA Kickstarter way back in August last year. Those that opted in and pledged $95 or more in order to guarantee that they’d get the Android based OUYA console before it goes to retail are in luck as it’s been reported that consoles have started to be shipped!
The OUYA console raised an impressive $8.5 million in order to start development on an Android based console and as of yesterday (March 28th) the small but jam packed cube will be making it’s way to all of the early adopters real soon.
Thanks to the Easter Holiday don’t expect your consoles in the next few days, but hopefully in the next few weeks you’ll all have a little OUYA to call your own. A few things though before you begin to play, watch, and listen to things on your new device, an update is expected out of the box, and you’ll also need a valid credit or debit card in order to play games, don’t worry though, games will remain free-to-try.
Most OUYA consoles will also come with just one controller unless you added an extra $30 for an extra controller way back. If you require more however you can purchase more at their website for $49.99
Remember, those of you in the UK who plan on getting an OUYA when it hits retail will still have to pay around £100 for the console and controller, even with the $99 pricetag you’ll still need to pay import fee’s and shipping which all adds up to around £100 anyway. You can currently pre-order an OUYA from GAME with the date “TBD” but we’re all under the impression that June is when the console will officially release. There’s also word that Amazon.co.uk may stock the console too, but their website shows up nothing OUYA related when searching for the console.
