illandroidA report from security firm Lookout has found a bit of malware within the Google Play store. The good new is; Unless you have been downloading rather ‘odd’ looking Russian apps which are clones of others, You should be fine. However, the bad news is that this hasn’t stopped it from being downloaded a few million times.

The malware, named ‘BadNews’ has reportedly been found in 32 different apps across 4 developer accounts. Built around an ad framework it’s unclear if all of the developers were aware of the malware. This shouldn’t be left to question however. Malware is malware.

‘BadNews’ has reportedly been said to do two things. One, fake alerts which ask you to download other infected apps and secondly, sends your phone number and device ID back to the malware creator.

Though Google continues to fight the fight against malware it is a never ending battle. You can find a full list of all the known infected apps here.

More on this as it develops.
