Following on from yesterday’s post about a upcoming ‘big gaming announcement’ we are now happy to report what the news in fact is. The announcement is indeed a big one as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment announce the new game in the Batman: Arkham franchise. Batman: Arkham Origins.
The critically acclaimed franchise, and a personal favorite of mine, is soon to get a third title in the series as we take a step back into the past in what is said to be a prequel to the last two games. Set a few years before the rise of Gotham City’s most deadly criminals, Batman: Arkham Origins will explore a younger Batman as he faces a challenge which will set him on the path to becoming the Dark Knight. It’s said that players will meet some important characters for the first time which will lead to some key moments in the game.
Given how the last game in series, Batman: Arkham City ended, it’s a bit of a let down to find out that we are getting a prequel but who knows. Maybe Arkham Origins will open a whole new level to the Batman: Arkham franchise storyline. Along side it’s release Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate has been announced as well. This however will be a 2.5-D game created by side developer Armature Studio and will bring the experience to handheld players. Said to be a companion game, it will further explore details in Batman’s past and complete the Arkham Origins story.
Take note however that this time around the Dark Knight won’t be created by developer Rocksteady but rather WB Games Montreal. Given how successful the last two games were I for one am concerned as to how this new developer will deal with the pressure.
Batman: Arkham Origins is set to release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will release on Nintendo 3Ds and PlayStation Vita. Both are said to release world wide on 25th October, 2013.
The Dark Knight is soon to return but is there concern to be hand with this prequel? What do you think. Leave a comment below.
