It all began when Bethesda tweeted this image it wasn’t too clear as to what exactly we were looking at. Some sort of glowing orb/eye? A bullet or some kind of missile head? And some lasers accompanied by some shadows? It all seems very dark and mechanical. The following day or two Bethesda tweeted the first image that was teased here with the tweet “@GameSpot has a big announcement you don’t want to miss #1960”.
You can check out the GameSpot page here, here, and here with the full versions of the three images each labeled “z1960” “y1960” “x1960”. It obviously has something to do with the year 1960..
Some publications began thinking that it’s a Wolfenstein game, which I can confirm is now true! Bethesda Softworks announced today a new title, Wolfenstein: The New Order which is scheduled for release at the end of this year.
The game is being developed by MachineGames a studio known for creating compelling story driven games and have taken the task to develop a new game under the Wolfenstein franchise and Wolfenstein: The New Order is a reimagining of that hoping to offer players a gripping and dramatic experience.
“We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere,” said Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames. “As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”
You can check out the GameSpot trailer above which looks awesome.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, and next generation consoles at the end of the year.
