If there’s one thing that frustrates the hell out of gamers who play FIFA 13, Dead Space 3, Battlefield 3, and Madden NFL it’s the Online Pass program. If you fancy buying yourself a pre-owned copy of the aforementioned games, you’ll most likely have to fork out an extra wad of cash just to use the online features (unless the online pass hasn’t been used before – yeah right!). As of today any future titles released by EA won’t contain an Online Pass code because they’re officially discontinuing the program.
According to the publisher the decision to scrap the Online Pass Program was partly down to players response of the feature. “Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass,” EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg confirmed to GamesBeat in an e-mail. “None of our new EA titles will include that feature.” Reseburg went on to write “We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
The program was originally put in place to make profit from the pre-owned game market but as you can expect it was a feature that no-one wanted and wasn’t readily adopted. Bare in mind that this only applies to EA’s future releases so don’t go splashing your cash on all of those games you decided not to buy because of the Online Pass because it still applies!
