Thought about killing a few hours by playing Neverwinter, a new free-to-play MMORPG from Cryptic and Perfect World Entertainment? No? Well maybe a quick look at The Whispering Caverns, one of the games highest level adventure zones might pry you away from your beloved World of Warcraft or League of Legends.
From the brief half an hour I spent playing Neverwinter (I plan on playing some more now they’ve opened up the beta) it felt very familiar to Blizzard’s famous World of Warcraft, by familiar I mean the controls were pretty much the same, but that’s probably something to expect from MMO’s right? Anyway.. Neverwinter is a brand new Dungeons & Dragons MMO which began as a top-down RPG and has now transitioned to something a little more action orienated, the story is sort-of a collection of elements from the tabletop game of D&D with the eponymous city is plunged into chaos after the disappearance of the last Lord of Neverwinter.
Those familiar with Dungeons & Dragons will no doubt feel at home in this game with what feels to be a true D&D experience which has been brought to life. The game is set in the classic table top game’s city of the Forgotten Realms with players exploring every corner of, and defending one of the most loved cities from the game. As with the tabletop game, the players in D&D Neverwinter are able to make decisions which will ultimately decide what will happen further down the line.
Neverwinter also comes with the ability to create your own story using a built in toolset called The Foundry. This gives players the chance to design maps and custom adventures for the actual game itself.
The video above shows off one of the top level zones with monsters at the level 60 cap and is the home to an enemy called mind flayers, characters who use psionic abilities – this will be the a new enemy for players to discover and battle.
