Having filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, Kotaku is reporting that Timegate, an independent Texas based developer is to lay off the entirety of its staff.
As recently as last month, the developer was building hype for its projected end of year release ‘Minimum’ a free to play shooter which put us in mind of Minecraft meets Transformers (with fairly kick ass results) but judging by this latest news, it’s safe to say that the project, which was soon to enter a closed Alpha, will go unfinished.
It’s been suggested that Timegate’s closure may be related to publisher SouthPeak’s recent attempt to force a liquidation of the studio in arbitration, though at this point in time the rumour goes unconfirmed. SouthPeak, a veteran publisher based in Virginia, were responsible for publishing Timegate’s recent critical bomb ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’, which left many fans of the franchise dissatisfied.
Whether Timegate, who also developed the F.E.A.R. expansion packs ‘Extraction Point’ and ‘Perseus Gate’ will bounce back in one form or another remains to be seen, but as of recent developments that seems unlikely. We’ll keep you abreast of the story as it continues.
