You may of heard of a small film franchise called Star Wars. It’s been out for a few years and there’s a few people who like it. This film franchise has lead to an astonishing amount of games, some I’ve owned and loved, some I probably didn’t know existed. But there was one Star Wars game that stood out even years after playing it, Pod Racer Revenge.
I loved the Pod Racers in Episode I, and when I got the game all the way back in 2002 I was so excited to take part in some of the most deadly races in the galaxy. Pod Racer Revenge was actually a sequel to ‘Star Wars: Episode I Racer’ where a very disgruntled Sebulba looks to get revenge on everyone’s favourite little boy from Tatooine, Anakin Skywalker. There are 13 tracks in total, spanning over 3 tournament that see 22 different pilots fight for domination on the track. Using brute force and high speed, you have to play dirty to win.
For me Pod Racer Revenge was a great game, it combined two of my favourite things: Star Wars and racing games, that’s a winning combination. There was three different game types: as mentioned the Tournament; Single Player, which was split into three different types, Single Event, Time Trial and Practice; and lastly .Vs Race that would allow you to play with friends and family to see who was the best Racer in your galaxy.
As well as many of the racers making a return from Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace movie there are also unlockable bonus characters including: Young (Episode I style) Anakin, Watto, Sebulba, Darth Maul and Darth Vader making cameo appearances.
I have nothing but fond memories of this game and have often wondered why it never made a return? But maybe it’s best that it stays there as just a childhood memory. If you owned this game too, what did you think of it? Would you like to see something this style released again? As always let me know in the comments below.
