When Rockstar announced that they’ll be moving the release date of GTA V from the “Spring 2013” release date to one much later in the year, many speculated that it was because of the release of the next generation consoles we’re waiting to eagerly for, and the games launch on those consoles. In an interview with MCV, that might not be the case – in fact Grand Theft Auto V might not come to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 at all.
In an interview with MCV, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick may have hinted that the next instalment of the Grand Theft Auto series might not be making it’s way to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
“Grand Theft Auto V is the most highly anticipated release of our biggest franchise,” he continued: “The installed base of current generation consoles is estimated to be in excess of 120 million, and most of those consumers have been waiting for Grand Theft Auto V for years. Therefore, we expect there to be enormous consumer demand for Grand Theft Auto V regardless of when the next-generation consoles are released.”
Make note however that he didn’t out-rightly say that Grand Theft Auto V won’t be coming to next generation consoles, he just states that the current demand for the game is so high that when the next generation consoles are released he doesn’t see people shunning their Xbox 360’s and PlayStation 3’s in favour of next gen.
As it stands there aren’t any hints for or against a next gen release for Grand Theft Auto V but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for any news on the matter.
Grand Theft Auto V is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17
