The Android based console the OUYA is scheduled to launch near the end of this month and with full support from various indie developers it had yet to receive some real recognition from a major publisher. That is, until now!
SEGA announced yesterday that it’ll be bringing three Sonic titles to the OUYA almost immediately after launch. The three titles are Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, and Sonic CD. SEGA has also adopted the consoles free-to-try business model with the first level of both Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Sonic CD available to try for free, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II will provide the first 2 levels for free.
A $6.99 price tag has also been attached to the three games which is quite a price increase compared to their iOS and Android counterparts, but what we need to consider is that these three games have been optimised for TV play, much like the games were intended, no doubt.
“Sega is an example of the types of developers that are coming to Ouya. We’ve always said that because Ouya is open, we lower the barriers for any type of developer, whether it’s AAA or a newcomer,” OUYA CEO Julie Uhrman said.
It’s pretty exciting news to see that a smaller, yet popular console is finally getting some recognition from a larger publisher. Lets hope there are more to follow!
