I’ve mentioned Class 4 every time I’ve mentioned State of Decay. Class 4 is the code name for the MMO expansion to the Zombie survival game taking the Xbox Live Arcade by storm, from early on creators Undead Labs spoke about the online part of the game, stating that they would be waiting till State of Decay was operating as smooth as possible and once all the initial patch work was done. Which is a good idea, there is nothing wrong with having your game running as good as possible before moving onto your next project.
But it seems Class 4 hangs in the balance at the moment whilst Undead Labs and Microsoft work out a series of terms. The two companies have to agree on support, goals as well as the technology. Undead Lab’s community director told Eurogamer:
“We cannot begin working on Class4 without a greenlight from Microsoft (who owns the IP, as part of the bargain that led to the funding and development of State of Decay) and a mutually agreeable contract”
“We have to agree on where we think the technology is going to be in a few years (since the game will take a few years to develop); we have to agree that we have the same goals; and we have to agree on how we’ll collectively run and support the final game.”
So it seems for now that Class 4 could be a longer wait than I first expected, but then again if Microsoft give the greenlight to Undead it could come soon. Who know. What we do know is as soon as more information comes available for Class 4, be it good or bad news we will be letting you know!
State of Decay has became the second fastest selling game on the XBLA ever, selling approximately 250,000 in just two days. So if you haven’t already played this awesome game you need to go to the nearest mirror and just look at yourself, go on… I’ll wait.
