On June 9th we covered news of the upcoming Tekken sequel, Tekken Revolution.
Today, industry heavy-hitter NAMCO BANDAI Games releases the title to the Playstation Network, free to play to millions of PS3 owners the world over.
The 42+ million selling franchise continues in revolutionary style, with eight iconic Tekken characters all playable and all hard-hitting. Local and online multiplayer comes as standard, but particularly interesting is the new level-up system, combining classic beat ’em up game play with something akin to your RPG of choice. Players will be able to level up in three distinct categories – strength, endurance and vigour – which will let you play to your strengths like never before. Like to hit hard and fast? Or prefer to be the sort of defensive tank who soaks up high-kicks for breakfast? Go ahead.
Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada had this to say, “We are extremely proud that the TEKKEN franchise will be the first in the fighting game genre to adopt the free-to-play business model for the console market. By going free-to-play, we hope to open up the fighting game community to a larger audience. We are excited to see everyone’s reaction to the Special Arts, Critical Arts, and the character enhancement system but we also have several major updates with added content scheduled so we hope everyone will stay tuned!”
TEKKEN REVOLUTION is now available for download free on the North American PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 system and on the 12th of June in Europe.
