Finally! It’s been a fair few months since Twitter first launched Vine it’s 6-second gif/video service with only word of an Android version “coming soon”. It’s now officially here, but it’s killing us that at the time of writing no-one can seem to get it!
Twitter launched it’s unique video/gif sharing service in January this year and it took the iOS app store by storm. Vine managed to hit the top spot on the iOS app store this April and showed no signs of budging. Those of us with Android phones however have been checking Google and the App store until we’re blue in the face for the little green ‘V’ icon to become available with no prevail.
Twitter announced today in a blog post that Vine is finally here for Android and it can be downloaded right now. The only problem is right now at the time of writing, it cant. It’s showing up in the web version of Google Play but it’s not letting anyone install it. The same goes for the mobile Play Store, in some cases it’s not even listed. Whether this is because every man and his dog is attempting to download the video sharing service or there’s just an error with the app store remains to be seen.
As soon as it becomes available a few features may be missing, but Twitter have already addressed that:
Though we’ve been very focused on releasing Vine for Android, we’ve continued to release updates and add new features to the iOS app. As a result, the two apps are not perfectly in sync, but that won’t be the case for long. Over the coming weeks, you’ll see frequent updates with new features –– including front-facing camera, search, mentions and hashtags, and the ability to share to Facebook –– as well as bug fixes and performance improvements. Of course, this is only the beginning –– we have exciting plans for features that could exist only on Android.
I’ll leave you with that for now, I’m off to repeatedly click refresh until it downloads.
You can attempt to download Vine by clicking here.
Edit: Vine is now finally available to download! Enjoy! Also, feel free to post your first Vines on Android here in the comments!
