Forza 5 comes with day one DLC.

Forza 5 comes with day one DLC.Even though the Xbox One no longer requires an internet connection in order to use the console, if you want to play Forza 5 you’ll need to be connected at least once in order to download content which is needed in order to play the game.

Speaking with IGN, Turn 10 Studios head Dan Greenwalt laid it out quite simply:

“So when you first boot up the game, we’re going to ask you to log in,” he said. “And when you log in you’re going to get the Drivatars and you’re also going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars. Our production schedule is such that we are putting them in as late as possible and that means making them free as downloadable content on Day One. [But] that is required content to play the game.”

To put it even simpler, Turn 10 are planning on releasing an incomplete version of Forza 5 so they have a couple of months extra to work on the game, in turn this will require you to then download that extra content in order to play the game. Something that Greenwalt and his team at the time believed wouldn’t be an issue since the Xbox One required an always-on connection, now it doesn’t it makes the guys at Turn 10 look bad.

Right now it doesn’t seem like too much of a problem, that is unless you have no internet connection, or a connection so poor attempting to download such a large file might take weeks. Bear in mind though that this decision was made when the Xbox One had a mandatory online connection so essentially Microsoft are to blame here, not Turn 10 Studios.
