Google Play Hits 50 Billion App Downloads

Google Play Hits 50 Billion App DownloadsDuring the companies second quarter earnings call yesterday Google Play CEO Larry Page revealed Google Play users have downloaded more than 50 billion apps, I like to think he fist pumped the air at the time.

It was during Google I/O in May that they announced they had reached 48 billion app downloads, around the name time Apple launched the countdown clock that showed iTunes surpassing 50 billion downloads, it’s fair to say they’re pretty even.

This means 2 billion app downloads took place in a mere two months, anyone who thought the Play store would quietly linger in the background was very wrong, in fact during the call Larry Page confirmed more money has been paid out to app developers in the first half of 2013 than was for the whole of 2012, those are crazy numbers that show an even crazier amount of growth.
