Ubuntu Edge IndieGoGo Raises over $3 million in 24 hours, introduces new perks. The Ubuntu Edge IndieGoGo campaign has been live for around 2 days now and has already raised a whopping $4,284,849. Yesterday Canonical announced that they’d hit the 10% mark and as well had sold completely out of the $600 “Day One” price band for the Ubuntu Edge phone and in replacement added a new “Double Edge” perk which for $1400 secured you two Ubuntu Edge mobiles at a discounted rate.

On the IndieGoGo page, Canonical wrote in an update:

We hit $1 million in under five hours, and $2 million not long after that. We’ve now passed the 10% line, which shows just how much demand there is out there for the Edge’s radical new approach to mobile technology.

Thank you for all your support, both in backing the campaign and getting it out there for all to see – at one point yesterday our new baby was trending higher on Twitter than a certain royal one!

Since then thing have died down a little and the money being raised had plateaued. Some people in the comments seemed excited but a little disappointed that they would now have to fork out $830 for the handset. What was until earlier today when Canonical posted another update which introduced a handful of perks which allowed us to get the Ubuntu Edge at a much cheaper rate.

Starting at $625 you can get the Ubuntu Edge as well as being added onto their founders page, there’s 1250 of these available to get them whilst they’re cheap. Other perk prices are also available at $675, then $725 and $775. It’ll then move onto the next teir once all of these have been bought up starting at $780 (4000 units), going up to $790 (3000 units) then to $800 (4000 units) $810 (5000 units), $820 (7000 units), and finally the originally available $830 perk which is the RRP of the Ubuntu Edge.

It seems like Canonical have listened to what people are saying and have added more and more ways for people to get their hands onto the Ubuntu Edge. I have real high hopes for this campaign.
