Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U won’t contain legendary cut-scenes.Writing in his forthnightly column in Weekly Famistu Masahiro Sakurai has said that the new Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U won’t contain the legendary cut-scenes due to them being uploaded to the internet.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl the game contained a game mode called “Subspace Emissary” which took advantage of the appearance of various characters from different game series’. After tons of work went into creating the game mode and various individial cut-scenes for each characters, after a while most of them appeared on the internet spoiling the surprise for other players essentially ruining the experience the creators wanted from the game mode and accompanying cut-scenes.

“Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet,” Sakurai wrote. “You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”

Instead Sakurai wrote that cutscenes for new characters, the Villager, Mega Man, and Wii Fit Trainer will be spread around. He also expressed that this will be repeated for all new characters.

The game in essence won’t be without a story mode, the 3DS version, Sakurai wrote will “act as a separate mode from the standard versus play.” as well as a new character customisation option that’ll alter the characters performance. A transfer of these character tweaks from the 3DS to the Wii U are being talked about.

The two games will also feature different versions of the levels with the 3DS featuring more “portable versions” of the levels and the Wii U having more “home console” versions of the levels – there’s no word on how that will be executed however.

Super Smash Bros. is scheduled for release on the 3DS and Wii U next year.
