Google’s $35 wireless streaming, HDMI dongle, the Chromecast has been a hit since it was announced last week, selling out on Amazon, BestBuy, and even the Google Play store. Google even had to pull the plug on the free Nexflix offer due to such high demand. Even with just basic streaming support from YouTube, Netflix, Google Play, and Chrome browser itself that didn’t put people off throwing their cash at Google.
It’s limited support may not be lasting for too long though as a recent report by GigaOm states that Vimeo VP has said “we’re excited about the emerging opportunities bridging mobile to Connected TV and we look forward to offering Chromecast support in our products.”. That’t not all though because in the same report has confirmed that Redbox Instant will also be coming to the streaming device.
Finally there’s been some hints that there may also be support from HBO and their HBO Go service thanks to some configuration files unearthed by GTVHacker.com last week along side Pandora, Songza, and Revision3.
As soon as the Chromecast becomes available in the UK, I’m getting one at any cost.
