The facts and figures are in and it seems that Nintendo are onto a winner with Animal Crossing: New Leaf having sold over 500,000 copies in June alone which in turn has boosted sales of Nintendo’s 3DS console which is also top of the hardware charts.
Nintendo have revealed that the social-simulation / time management game Animal Crossing: New Leave has sold around 505,000 copies in June alone. Pretty impressive stats considering the game launched in North America on the 9th of June. Of those 505,000 copies around 20% of those were sold through the Nintendo eShop proving that the digital download market is booming.
In turn however this has also caused sales of the Nintendo 3DS to remain top of the charts over the Xbox 360. Nintendo have reported that 3DS sales have raised over 40% in June selling 225,000 this is compared to the same month in 2012.
NPD Group’s Liam Callahan had this to say on the strong 3DS sales:
“To quote Nintendo during E3, ‘software sells hardware’, which is evident in this month’s 3DS results,”
He’s not wrong there, with games like Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, LEGO City Undercover, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and the upcoming Pokémon titles Nintendo are beginning to get an even stronger catalogue for their hand-held console.
