On Thursday Motorola finally unveiled the Moto X, not that it was met with very much shock and awe. Thanks to the abundance of leaks we all knew what it looked like as well as half of the features available, all that we were really looking for was an official announcement. Now we have it we can finally write about what it actually offers!
So what are we waiting for? Let’s explore what the Moto X actually offers!
The Moto X has a 4.7inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280×720, it comes packed with a 10 megapixel ClearPixel camera on the back and a 2MP snapper on the front. Under the hood the Moto X comes with a 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro with 2GB RAM. There’s a choice of either 16 or 32GB storage as well as 50GB of Google Drive space for two years due to the lack of microSD support. Finally it comes with Android 4.2.2 and a 2200 mAh battery which Motorola say will last for 24 hours.
Now, specs are a wonderful thing, at least, in the Moto X they are, but we’re more interested in another feature. Motorola’s Touchless Control. This feature allows you to take control of your Moto X without the need to even touch it. Apparently it utilises the same voice recognition as Google Glass and will learn your voice.
Feeling creative? Well then you’ll love the Moto Maker, this feature is currently only exclusive to AT&T right now, but Moto Maker allows you to fully customise your Moto X and I don’t mean the software aspect, I mean hardware. Before you commit to purchasing a boring white or black Moto X, using the Moto Maker you can change the colour of the back of the device as well as the front, choose the accent colour, choose what wallpaper it’ll come loaded with, choose the greeting, and even add an engraving on the back.
“Choose from more than 2,000 possible combinations, with more to come. We’ll be constantly exploring new offerings, such as real wood backs, starting later in the year. Still love the classics? You can choose an eye-catching woven black or woven white model right in the store.”
Right now it seems that the Moto X has currently only launched in the US with no word of a UK release. The Moto X is launching some time in August or September priced on contract at $199 for the 16GB model and $249 for 32GB model. It’s also been confirmed that the Moto X is going to be available on the following US carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular.
