The past few days there has been talk of Microsoft’s next generation console, the Xbox One, will not get fully functional voice controls at launch in certain countries. Thankfully however when the console launches in November, just 5 of the 13 “tier one” territories one of which is the UK.
The United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, France, and Germany will be the five territories which will be able to get fully functional voice commands such as “Xbox On” when the console launches in November. But that’s not to say the remaining few territories won’t be getting any functionality at all.
In a post on NeoGAF, Microsoft director of product planning Albert Penello said that in November they’ll be launching the console in 13 territories and “10 of those geos will support some voice features”. He finally noted that at launch the Xbox One will support 8 languages and you’ll be given the choice of: English US and GB, French, Spanish (Mexico and Spain), Italian, German, and Portuguese.
Penello also noted that the Xbox One’s localisation and language availability is also confusing, even to him.
“There is no way that I could do justice to it in a post, so the marketing team is working on a chart that gives clarity on what locales, languages, and voice features are available in each country. Trying to write it down would be confusing. Stay tuned for a more detailed explanation,”
