BlackBerry Reveal the Z30 a New 5-Inch Smartphone with BlackBerry 10

Considering the recent news surrounding BlackBerry’s current financial difficulties it was quite a surprise to me this morning when I saw that they had just announced the Z30, a brand new 5-inch smartphone running BlackBerry 10 that’s the largest and most powerful BlackBerry device yet.

The BlackBerry z30 is home to a 5-inch Super AMOLED display and a new 1.7GHz processor with quad-core graphics under the hood, there’s no detail on RAM. The main feature behind the Z30 though is the launch of BlackBerry’s latest OS, BlackBerry 10.2. This new OS which includes hundreds of refinements plus many new features that help you be more productive.

The BlackBerry Hub has been tweaked in this new OS version giving users a new Priority Hub feature that learns users habits over time to present the what it deems are the most important messages culled from email, social networks, and other accounts. BlackBerry Messenger has also been improved and  provides a new pop-up feature which shows new messages as well as details of said messages on the phone’s lock screen.

With the Z30 BlackBerry are introducing a new set of stereo speakers that they’re calling BlackBerry Natural Sound which hopes to improve the sound received from BBM Voice and BBM Video chats sound more natural and realistic “making conversations sound like you’re in the same room.”.

The BlackBerry Z30 also includes a 2880 mAh battery, the largest battery ever built into a BlackBerry smartphone offering up to 25 hours of “mixed use”. This is one thing I found to be the strongest point in the BlackBerry Z10, the battery life was truly phenomenal. So with this new battery in the Z30 I’m expecting good things.

BlackBerry are saying that the Z30 will be available next week in the UK and Middle East with pre-orders already open. In terms of a release in other regions BlackBerry say that the Z30 will be available for the holidays.

Z10, Q10, and Q5 owners should start seeing the BlackBerry 10.2 update roll-out some time next month.
