During Nintendo’s Pokémon X and Y Direct broadcast today they announced a twist coming to Pokémon X and Y. Players do not receive Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie from Professor Sycamore at the beginning of the game, they actually choose classic starter Pokémon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle from Pokémon Blue and Red.

If that wasn’t already exciting enough, remember we spoke about the Mega Evolution? Well once you’ve levelled up your Pokémon into Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise and obtained their unique Mega Stone, the Pokémon will be able to Mega Evolve while in battle. That means Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise will possess overwhelming powers never before seen in a Pokémon game during battle!

The Trainer’s Key Stone resonates with the Mega Stone held by his or her Pokémon, and together they trigger the Evolution that is normally impossible—Mega Evolution. So as well as the individual Pokémon’s unique Mega Stone, you’ll also be required to grab the Mega Ring in order to Mege Evolve your Pokémon during battle.

Finally during the Nintendo Direct Broadcast director from GAME FREAK inc., Mr. Junichi Masuda, also announced a premium feature; the Pokémon Bank which is a new Nintendo 3DS application and service that allows players of Pokémon X and Y to safely and conveniently store up to 3,000 of their beloved Pokémon on the Internet. It’ll currently be unavailable at launch, but come 27 December, 2013 it’ll be available in Europe.

Finally, when players download the software Pokémon Bank software, they can also download its linked application, Poké Transporter, which makes transferring many Pokémon caught in other Pokémon games easy. All you have to do is insert Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2 into your Nintendo 3DS system and use Poké Transporter to transfer Pokémon from those games into Pokémon Bank.

You’ll have to note that an annual service charge will apply when players activate the Pokémon Bank software to their Nintendo 3DS system. This charge will support maintenance of the online server that allows players to store up to 3,000 Pokémon safely and conveniently, and will provide the application’s support for future Pokémon titles.

At the end of the broadcast, it was announced that Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will both recieve limited edition versions of the 3DS XL console. These systems come in Red or Blue and feature brand new Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal, similar to those made available in Japan a short while ago.
