Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has announced that PS4 controllers will allow players to listen to gameplay through the Dualshock 4’s headphone jack.
In a way this feature is not an entirely new one, certain pricey headsets already enable this feature on current gen consoles. For the feature to be built into the standard controller for the console is certainly a big step.
It’s one of those features that will come in handy for most gamers, certainly I’ve found myself playing on mute when the night grows old and others in my house are in bed, so this will certainly be a welcome addition in those cases.
@HyperXStream it’s not only for a voice chat, you can choose

As you can see Shuhei Yoshida hints that there will be an option to choose what sort of output the headphone jack for the Dualshock 4 will playback, either gameplay or voice chat.
This begs the question, will it be possible to listen to both at the same time? One would assume so but if it is the case it was not the clearest way to word the feature from the Worldwide Studios man, of course it should be noted that announcing gameplay mechanics and new gaming features in 140 characters or less would be a difficult task for even the most experience Twitter user.
This feature will obviously not be a defining one in the battle between the Xbox One and the PS4 but certainly it is one of those small things that can be added to the list of cool additional selling points.
