As I sit and count the minutes until my copy of the Metal Gear Legacy collection turns up, I start getting myself into the zone. To think, soon I will be able to re-live the whole Metal Gear story on one system and in HD. It’s prefect come to think about but it also gets me thinking about the next game in the series.
Certain reports surrounding MGS5 or Ground Zeroes as it’s called, are saying that some changes to the gameplay are rather, well, worrying. For example, the game will be getting a type of bullet-time feature, there’s the Call of Duty like health regeneration system, as well as a range of small tweaks that change the MGS formula. It’s also true that we are also getting some of the most epic features ever found in a Metal Gear game with some people saying could be the best game in the series to date. The thing is, I’m worried about some elements.
Now over the last few games I’ve gotten use to not having the radar in the HUD. Other more creative ways have allowed the same result and in most cases, just having control over the camera has helped a lot. MGS3 I’m looking at you here. The new lighting system that well, makes sense, is also a nice feature. Plus the freedom to move around almost in total freedom makes me happy as well. That and being able to have missions last a much longer amount of time is also good.
If we look at Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance however, we could say that the series is gone away from anything it once held. Firstly, you have ‘some’ points there and you would, to a limit, be correct. Then again, it wasn’t part of the main series of games which Five, or Ground Zeroes, or The Phantom Pain will be. Then again, Rising was an epic standalone title and so far what I’ve seen of Five makes me scream with joy as I wet myself with excitement but also ask so many questions. It’s hit and miss.
So, removal of the health bar and replacing it with the normal standard of ‘Let’s put blood on the screen because why not?’ also leads onto the question about health items. Health will come back after time so where do we find our famous need for ‘rations’ and other wild foods that we have become so use too? Short answer, who knows?
At the current moment in time we don’t know much about the upcoming title in the series other than Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is the prologue to Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain, two games with two release dates. Then again, all we know for sure is that the game will be amazing no matter how many features are different this time around.
Still. I’m not happy about the voice actor, but I’m sure I will get over it. Roll on Metal Gear Solid 5.
