According to an XML File found deep within Rockstar’s own website, Grand Theft Auto Online could include virtual cash based microtransactions giving the opportunity for people to buy virtual cash amongst other items with real money.
These virtual “cash packs” are rumoured to include virtual cash denominations of $100,000, $200,000, $500,000 and $1,250,000. Along with the item information a description was also included as well as .dds images of the credit cards:
“Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.”
The file was initially spotted on Reddit and the thread blew up with users unhappy about a microtransaction system being found in a game that we’ve already spent a chunk of cash on. Rockstar are yet to confirm or deny whether or not this is actually going to happen but we’ll soon find out when Grand Theft Auto Online launches on October 1.
