Activision and Marvel Entertainment today revealed that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is planned to launch next spring, as a potential companion piece to the upcoming movie of the same name. The title, developed by Beenox, will follow in its predecessor’s foosteps, going down the third person action adventure route and will provide the gamer with an alternate look at events from the movie, offering them the chance to shape them in their own way. We’re also promised something of an open world setting, with the intrepid web swinger given the opportunity to wing their way around New York City at will.
Co-Studio Head of Beenox Thomas Wilson had this to offer.
“The first The Amazing Spider-Man game gave players their own beautifully animated, free-roaming city of Manhattan to traverse and explore — a playground of majestic scale in which to live out our common hero fantasies. And the overwhelming message from fans was: ‘MORE!’ That’s what our team is working toward with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 — we’re giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress. And with the game launching alongside the new movie, offering an expanded interactive experience beyond the film, fans of the franchise won’t want to miss playing it.”
We’re also set to see ‘vast’ improvements on the already impressive Manhattan landscape and are promised various new and old foes to contend with. A key feature being implemented with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is the new “Hero or Menace” system, which provides greater incentives than ever before for Super Heroic behavior, rewarding your crime fighting efforts and all the while adding consequences for letting criminality fester or even indulging in some shady practices yourself. Spidey’s web slinging brawler brand of combat will see several updates as well.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game will launch alongside the hotly anticipated feature film next spring for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS and Windows PC. As N3’s resident Spiderman fan boy, I can’t wait to see what we’re going to get – lame movie tie-in or web slinging , smart talking wonder? We’ll be sure to review upon release to let you know.
