I guess the idea for this feature came from when I was thinking about the future of the Marvel cinematic universe. What will come in Avengers sequels yet to pass and what will Whedon and co. take inspiration from next?
Cue the modern history. You could thank me in time to come.
It was back in 2006 and Kick-Ass writer Mark Millar started war in the Marvel Universe. The Civil War began. The side were drawn like this:
Iron Man on one and Captain America on the other.
The war began after the government was inspired by local events to force all superheroes to register in the Superhuman registration act. An act in which all costumed heroes would register and reveal their identity to the authorities.
Iron Man was heavily pushing it and believed those who didn’t sign up were just as bad as villains like Doctor Octopus of the Scorpion. He even used Spider-man to reveal his identity publicly to gain support and we all know how that turned out.
Captain America believed this was wrong and began a rebellion movement and after several bitter clashes Cap realised he’d lost sight of what he was fighting for. Cap surrendered and Iron Man’s side ultimately won.
Stark became head of S.H.I.E.L.D. and created a division in the Avengers. He lead a team called the Mighty Avengers and those who didn’t register became know as the New Avengers.
A little while a down the line it was found that figureheads in the Marvel Universe had been replaced by shapeshiftng aliens called the Skrulls. No one could be trusted and Stark was alone.
The Secret Invasion began.
The Skrulls corrupted Starks armour and their agents began to break down in the world. The heroes united and battled the bulkhead invasion force in Central Park and the Skrull Queen was killed by Norman Osborn. Osborn who been put in charge of the Thunderbolts, a group of villains being forced to make up for past crimes.
Stark was kicked out of S.H.I.E.L.D. and began to lose his company, this is where Osborn took over and called it H.A.M.M.M.E.R. The Dark Reign began with the villains on top and heroes below.. This is where Osborn created a team called the Dark Avengers – Villains posing as Avengers.
Eventually Osborn attempted to invade Asgard, which was briefly on Earth in Bronxton Texas. The heroes and Asgardians untied and quelled the Osborn regime and revealed his dark villainous nature. Osborn was beaten and the quo was restored.
