Earlier last week we wrote about CD Projekt RED and Dark Horse Comics coming together to announce something “truly special” at the NYCC which I believed to be one of two things, either a Witcher comic book series or a new game based on one of Dark Horse Comic’s titles. As it turns out, and to no surprise, it’s the former. A comic book based on The Witcher series of games.
From Paul Tobin, the Eisner Award-winning writer of Bandette, with art by Joe Querio (Lobster Johnson, B.P.R.D.) and covers by Dave Johnson (100 Bullets), comes The Witcher comic book. A a series of dark fantasy RPGs with a character-driven, non-linear story set in a gritty and living world.
“Inspired by a series of extremely popular novels translated into 19 languages, the comic series introduces a new adventure featuring Geralt of Rivia – a witcher, one of the few remaining monster hunters known from the hit video game franchise.” reads the press release.
“We’re very excited to work with CD Projekt RED on The Witcher. With the rich world they have created, and an enthralling central character like Geralt, we feel The Witcher is ripe to tell a compelling story through comics,” said Nick McWhorter, Director of Custom Programs, Dark Horse Comics.
Witcher #1 will be available for purchase March 19th, 2014 in comic shops everywhere! So there you have it, fans of The Witcher will be able to read more into the story of Geralt of Rivia and those unfamiliar with the video game series can enjoy a new comic based in the world of The Witcher.
