A treat arrives in time for Christmas for console only fans who might have missed the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 top-down shooter set in the Halo universe earlier this year.
Following the story of two characters, Commander Sarah Palmer and Spartan Davis, you play your way through events beginning after Halo 3 and leading up to Halo 4, fleshing out the background of the universe and backstory of the human/Covenant wars and the origins of Spartan Ops.
The initial release was mainly a touch controlled experience, though for the console release, you’ll be able to stomp around using your Xbox pads. Using the left stick for movement and the right stick for aiming your weapons, it’s all a bit Smash TV, which is always a good thing! Add multiplayer and you can have some Covenant-culling co-op fun with friends.
There’s 30 missions to blast through with the added bonus of the expansion Operation Hydra, which is generously part of the package instead of a seperate DLC bundle. You can also gain experience points in Spartan Assault that will transfer directly to Halo 4, unlocking skins, emblems and other goodies to play with.
There’s an in-game store, that can help with speeding up the process of a lengthy grind. Be it armour upgrades, boosts to assist your progress or unique weapons, you can choose to pay by cash or just play the game, earning them through graft and spending xp rather than maxing out your credit card trying to be the best.
Halo Spartan Assault should be with you in time for the holidays and should keep fans busy into the new year.
