On November 22nd a new Legend of Zelda game is coming to the 3DS. Called a Link Between Worlds. It uses the tried and tested feature from previous Legend of Zelda games and actually taking place in the same world as A Link to the Past. Exclusive to the 3DS and following in the roaring success of the Ocarina of Time 3D remake.
As you can see from the trailer you’ll be going between the traditional topdown viewpoint and a 2D viewpoint when you move into the walls. Explaining this mechanic isn’t entirely simple for this writer but there’s a video above this so watch that. No doubt most of you are anyway and haven’t even read this and that’s ok. Hype for A Link Between Worlds is at an all time high.
It is essentially a remake/reimagining and a sequel of A Link to the Past which is ok in my book. A Link to the Past stole hours of the lives of many others and myself upon first playing it. It will even feature reorchestrated sounds and music from the original.
A Link Between Worlds was first announced in Nintendo’s April Direct program and since then the internet has rumbled with excitement for it as well as argument between fans. The series producer Eiji Aonuma was given the choice by Miyamoto of doing either a 3D remake of Majora’s Mask or a sequel to A Link to the Past and he chose a mixture of the two in some way. Majora’s devout fans scream for their favourite. The idea for Link’s ability to hide and run inside the wall actually came from Ganon’s ability in Majora’s Mask. Rather cleverly one of the major features will be slipping between Hyrule and Lorule. A simple change in name but inspired all the same.
Are you excited for A Link Between Worlds as well? Or would you have prefered Majora’s Mask to be remade?
