Microsoft’s Games with Gold unofficially began with Fable 3 being made available for free to Xbox Live Gold members in June this year with Microsoft officially announcing the Games with Gold feature at E3. Since then Microsoft have been giving away two free games a month to Xbox Live Gold members including Crackdown, Assassin’s Creed II, Halo 3, and Dead Rising.

Games with Gold was only supposed to last until the end of the year but Microsoft have announced that they’ll be extending Games with Gold amd making it an “ongoing benefit for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360”.

In an Xbox News Wire post the Xbox Wire Staff wrote:

“At E3 2013, we launched Games with Gold as a limited-time program to thank our Xbox Live Gold members. Within that short period of time, we’ve seen an overwhelming response, with more than 120 million hours played with Games with Gold titles. Today, as a part of the “Week of Xbox Live,” we’re excited to announce that we are making Games with Gold an ongoing benefit for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360.”

The post continually references the Xbox 360 and not Xbox One so presumably this is Microsoft’s attempt at keeping the Xbox 360 relevant after their new console is released.

So it looks like each month players who have an Xbox Live Gold account with now continually be able to grab a free game on the first and the 16th. Currently you can download Halo 3 absolutely free!
