If you were planning on picking up a copy of Need for Speed: Rivals for Wii U this November 19 you might as well go and spend your cash on The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD because EA have announced that the game will not be coming to the Wii U thanks to poor sales of Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
Speaking with The Sixth Axis, Creative Director Craig Sullivan answered the website’s question on why the game won’t be coming to Nintendo’s Wii U this time around. The simple reason is down to poor sales of the last game. Sullivan explained:
“[Most Wanted] didn’t really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market. I would love for it to have, because we put so much effort into that, trust me. I’d love for it to be way bigger than it was, and the same for the Vita.
[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts. The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game, and that’s where we are.”
Another factor, of course, is the game engine that’ll be used, EA’s Frostbite 3, we know that EA doesn’t have plans to bring the engine over to the Wii U which means the guys over at Ghost Games and Ghost UK would need to re-build the game for the Wii U and as Sullivan mentioned, “The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much,”.
Need for Speed: Rivals is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 19 and Xbox One on November 22, and PlayStation 4 on November 29.
