Bioware writer Mac Walters recently explained that for the next Mass Effect game the team has agreed “to tell a story that doesn’t relate necessarily to any of the Shepard events at all, whatsoever”.
Walters insisted the game wouldn’t feel like a spin-off, “It has to feel like a Mass Effect game at its heart, at its core. Just without the Shepard character or the Shepard specific companions.”
So what’s in store for us with the next Mass Effect? Truth is not much has been revealed yet. We know that it will share core systems with Dragon Age: Inquistion, but anything else is just guess work for now.
Personally, I think given the recent comments, the next game could go back in time. The human / turian First Contact War perhaps? Controversial fan reaction aside, there’s no way the ending of Mass Effect 3 could be completely ignored by a chronological sequel.
