Terraria developer Andrew “Redigit” Spinks has been discussing working on a mysterious project for some time, since quitting and then returning to Terraria we were all unsure what his mystery project may be – turn’s out it’s Terraria 2 and it’ll be making it’s way to most platforms, that it at least when he starts development.
Terraria 2 is coming, but not for a while as Spinks is still committed to updating the current game but it’s out there at least! Spinks suggests that Terraria 2 will be less limited and have infinite worlds, a wider range of possibilities for players, and a few changes in the way loot and character progression works.
One thing that won’t be happening however, is a 3DS version. Unfortunately the 3DS has it’s limits which sadly means that Terraria wouldn’t run the way it’s supposed to. In an interview with Pocket Gamer, Spinks said:
“I am wanting to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so it can be released on multiple platforms at launch or close to launch, 3DS is something I was very interested in getting Terraria on but the system unfortunately cannot run Terraria the way it needs to be ran.”
Spinks hasn’t revealed too much about Terraria 2 but we can probably expect a PC, Android, iOS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 version in the works, maybe even PS Vita too?
More on this as it develops.
