I’ve been a huge fan of the Tony Hawk’s videogame franchise since Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater back on the PlayStation but since then the series has kind of taken a nosedive. Project 8 was the last Tony Hawk’s game I played and thoroughly enjoyed, but Proving Ground focused heavily on the ‘nail the trick’ feature which ruined the game, for me anyway.
In recent news it’s looking like Tony Hawk is interested in getting back into the gaming business, but this time on mobile. Speaking with CNBC Hawk spoke about how the gaming world has changed since the first Tony Hawk’s game in 1999.
“You just have to adapt and you have to realize where people are going to actually play their games,” said Hawk, speaking from the Dublin Web Summit, the biggest event of its kind in Europe.
“It used to just be Nintendo and PlayStation, and now it’s all kind of devices. So you’ve got to learn to adapt what you know from the technology into those areas…I’ve been wanting to do a mobile game for a long time.”
When asked whether it’d be difficult to shout over the sea of developers already fighting for our attention Hawk replied: “I think that we established ourselves pretty early on in our series and so people think of that as the standard for skateboarding video games,”.
Hawk also spoke about how he believed the freemium/free-to-play model was probably the best route to go down if he was to being Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater to mobile. At present there aren’t any plans set in stone but I for one am really looking forward to a new Tony Hawk’s game on what could be considered a new generation gaming platform. Let’s just hope it’s not a terrible remake like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD..
